The 2022 Aston Martin DBS is so speedy, with a thundering 715-hp V-12, that passersby will hardly have time to admire its finely sculpted sheetmetal before it launches into the distance.
Although Aston Martin claims a high speed of 211 mph, the DBS is better enjoyed at slower speeds, such as cruising down the Monte Carlo Coast or idling up Rodeo Drive.
Rivals like the Ferrari 812 Superfast and McLaren 765LT have sharper handling and are more track-ready. However, drivers who want a plush interior and Bond-style appearance will find that the DBS best fulfills their supercar ambitions.
What's new in the car?
The DBS loses the Superleggera moniker for 2022, but little else has changed. A new 21-inch wheel design is offered, and the DBS can now be chosen with one of three pre-configured interior themes: Create, Accelerate, or Inspire, each with its own distinct appearance and feel. Those looking for a more personalized interior will find an almost unlimited variety of options and features to complement the DBS's cabin.
Performance, Engine, and Transmission
The DBS is a monstrously rapid touring vehicle, with a stated zero-to-60-mph time of 3.2 seconds for the coupe and a top speed of 211 mph for both coupe and convertible. A 715-horsepower twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-12 engine drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission; press the gas pedal and the DBS takes off like a Saturn V rocket. When you come across some winding roads, the DBS is rewarding—if not difficult—to drive swiftly. Over rough pavement, the ride is comfortable, but don't anticipate the same level of refinement as a Mercedes-Benz S-class.
Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy
The DBS, like other high-powered exotic sports cars, isn't particularly fuel efficient, but its EPA-estimated 22 mpg highway fuel efficiency puts it ahead of rivals like the Ferrari F8 Tributo (19 mpg highway) and the Lamborghini Huracán (19 mpg highway) (18 mpg highway). We haven't gotten the opportunity to put the DBS through our 200-mile highway fuel economy test yet, but when we do, we'll update this piece with the results. Visit the EPA's website for more information on the DBS's fuel efficiency.
Cargo, Interior, and Comfort
The DBS is a grand-touring sports car, therefore it comes with plenty of amenities to make your journey more comfortable. Leather-wrapped power-adjustable sports seats with heat and memory settings are standard. Several types of trim are available for the cabin, including open-pore ash wood, carbon fiber, and satin-finished chrome.
Aston Martin, on the other hand, will sell you a four-piece personalized baggage set that is color-matched to your car's interior.
Connectivity and Infotainment
All DBS versions include an 8.0-inch infotainment display with navigation and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming. The infotainment system is a lightly reskinned version of Mercedes-COMAND Benz's software; to explore the menus, there's a click wheel and touchpad on the center console, and it's a reasonably intuitive system overall. The sound system comes standard with nine speakers, although purchasers can upgrade to a Bang & Olufsen system.
Features for Driver Assistance and Safet
Aston Martin has a limited number of driver-assistance features available on the DBS.
The following are important safety features:
- Front and rear parking sensors are included.
- Exterior camera system with 360-degree coverage as standard
- Airbags and electronic stability control are standard
Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance
Aston Martin offers a unique warranty package as a boutique automaker, consisting of a three-year protection insurance that does not expire at a particular mileage. Buyers of the DBS, on the other hand, will be responsible for their own dealer maintenance visits, as the brand does not include a comprehensive planned maintenance program as usual.
- During the three-year limited warranty period, you can drive as many miles as you like.
- The powertrain warranty is for three years and includes unlimited mileage throughout that time.
- There is no free planned maintenance.
