2022 Acura MDX-car specifications and price

Acura is revamping its small car and SUV lines at a breakneck pace. The three-row MDX is one of them, with a recent update bringing a slew of new features.

The beautiful stylistic elements for this SUV come from the tiny RDX SUV and TLX sedan, and the cabin has luxury materials and equipment worthy of Acura's premium brand. A 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard on this front-driver, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The Type S variant, on the other hand, comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine and standard all-wheel drive.

What's new in the car?

The MDX was revised for the 2022 model year, skipping the 2021 model year. The new SUV is styled and equipped similarly to the previously updated RDX and TLX models.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The new MDX has the same 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine as the previous model, but it's connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission rather than a nine-speed. All-wheel drive is still an option, although front-wheel drive is still the standard. The outgoing 2020 MDX has a hybrid powertrain, however Acura has not stated whether or not the 2022 MDX will be hybridized. All-wheel drive is standard on the sportier Type S model, which is driven by a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Although we haven't driven the Type S, we did test drive an all-wheel-drive Advance with the basic powerplant, which demonstrated impressively nimble handling and quick acceleration.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

The base 2022 MDX gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The highway rating is reduced by 1 mpg when all-wheel drive is selected. Our all-wheel-drive A-Spec test vehicle returned a disappointing 22 mpg on our 75-mph interstate fuel-economy route.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The interior of the MDX is significantly more luxurious than that of the 2020 model. In high-end trims, French-stitched leather covers the dashboard, and open-pore wood mixes with metal and piano-black accents. The MDX also has lots of creature conveniences, like dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. The front seats are sturdy and comfy, and they can be customized with features like 16-way power adjustment and massage.

The MDX's first and second rows provide plenty of room for passengers, but the third seat is still reserved for children. Although the interior is well-designed and has numerous convenience features, it lacks the opulence of comparable cabins such as the Genesis GV80 or the Volvo XC90.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The 2022 MDX has a big 12.3-inch infotainment display with a touchpad controller positioned in the center console, which we're sorry to say is a bit of a pain to use. A 12.3-inch digital reconfigurable gauge display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charging pad are all included as standard features. The Technology trim comes with an ELS Studio stereo system, while the A-Spec and Advanced trims get a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D configuration.

Features for Driver Assistance and Safet

Acura has been steadily increasing the amount of standard driver-assistance technology in its vehicles, and the new MDX offers a number of appealing features.

The following are important safety features:

  1. Pedestrian recognition and standard autonomous emergency braking
  2. Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.
  3. Adaptive cruise control is a standard feature.

Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance

The MDX's warranty package is comparable to that of competitors such as the Buick Enclave and Lexus GX, although both of those companies cover the initial maintenance visit, whereas Acura forces the owner to pay for such service out of pocket.

  • A four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty is included.
  • A powertrain warranty of six years or 70,000 miles is included.
  • There is no free planned maintenance.
