The 2022 Land Rover Discovery-car specifications and price

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery is one of the few luxury SUVs that can tackle difficult off-road terrain while providing passengers with a comfortable and premium interior.

Its seven-seat interior gives ample space for a family to explore together, and it's nearly unstoppable in any weather thanks to its adjustable air suspension, standard all-wheel drive, and optional two-speed transfer case.

The Discovery comes with two turbocharged engines: a 296-hp four-cylinder and a 355-hp six-cylinder, and the ride quality is smooth and elegant. Its trail-ready setup, on the other hand, necessitates a compromise in its on-road demeanor, which isn't as well-balanced as rivals like the Porsche Cayenne and Volvo XC90.

What's new in the car?

Following a more extensive redesign for the 2021 model year, the Discovery SUV returns to the market in 2022 largely unchanged.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

All Discovery versions come standard with full-time all-wheel drive, but buyers may opt for a 296-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 355-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system. We haven't had the opportunity to test the Disco with the base turbo four, but with the inline-six, the large Land Rover feels nimble in town and has enough power for highway merging and overtaking. The six-cylinder Discovery reached 60 mph in 6.3 seconds on our test track. The Land Rover's adventure-ready purpose appeals to those looking for a vehicle that can do more than scour the mall parking lot, but it comes at the sacrifice of on-road skill.

When changing directions, the Discovery's handling isn't as cumbersome as one might think, but it still feels clunky and top-heavy. You'll never forget you're driving a big SUV in the Disco. The overall ride quality is excellent, and even the most severe bumps are readily handled. However, steering feel is lacking, particularly on-center, where a significant dead spot necessitates repeated steering corrections while cruising down the highway. The Disco can pull up to 8200 pounds if towing a hefty load is on the agenda.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

According to the EPA, the turbocharged four-cylinder model will get 19 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, while the hybridized six-cylinder engine will get 18 mpg In the city, you'll get 18 mpg, and on the interstate, you'll get 24 mpg.Our six-cylinder test vehicle barely got 22 miles per gallon on the highway at 75 mph.

Cargo, Interior, and Comfort

The Discovery's inside materials are high-end, and the design is opulent. The cabin is brimming with luxury accoutrements, and the level of comfort only gets better as you progress through the trim levels. For the driver and front-seat passenger, power-adjustable, heated leather seats with optional massage function provide adequate support and even better cushioning; second-row seats have fore-and-aft and recline settings. There would be fewer options for adventure if there wasn't enough space to transport things.

The Disco's roomy cabin proved to be rather accommodating with capacity for 29 of our carry-on luggage when both rear rows of seats were folded. When the last row of seats is flipped up and the Discovery is packed to the brim with seven eager explorers, the maximum number of carry-ons allowed lowers to only two behind the third row.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Land Rover's Pivi Pro infotainment system is standard on all Discovery models. It comes with a 11.4-inch touchscreen display and modern capabilities like an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot powered by a 4G LTE data connection, as well as real-time traffic and weather reports. Pivi Pro first appeared on the Land Rover Defender in 2020 and is now available on various Land Rover and Jaguar vehicles. It has a simpler menu structure and can receive updates over the air. There are up to nine USB ports throughout the cabin, and creative tablet-holding devices can be employed to provide rear-seat entertainment for children. A wireless smartphone charging pad, a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, and a full-color head-up display are all included as standard features.

Features for Driver Assistance and Safet

A few driver-assistance functions are included, but for more advanced technology, you'll need to upgrade to an extra package. Land Rover also offers a unique 360-degree external camera system that includes a view of the area directly beneath the Discovery's front end, which is obscured by the hood, and is meant to increase safety when driving off-road.

The following are important safety features:

  1. Continue reading below for more information.
  2. Pedestrian recognition and standard autonomous emergency braking
  3. Lane-keeping assistance is available.
  4. Adaptive cruise control is a feature that is available.

Coverage for Warranty and Maintenance

Land Rover's warranty plan is completely average, with most coverages lasting four years or 50,000 miles. While the Discovery does not come with free scheduled maintenance, Land Rover does offer cheap maintenance packages that cover the Discovery for up to four years and may be ordered through the dealer.

  • A four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty is included.
  • A four-year or 50,000-mile powertrain warranty is included.
  • There is no free planned maintenance.
